About Sagit Software

Hi, and welcome. Sagit software is a company I created in order to publish my various projects. I have a background in programming and my current fascination is the development of games.

I chose the name Sagit Software for various reasons:

  • The word Sagit is commonly found in French meaning “About” or “On” Software
  • It’s also an abbreviated version of the latin name for secretary bird
The logo is a side profile of their distinctive feathering
  • It’s really hard to find an available .com domain these days

When writing code I often think back to the origins of the profession. Programmers are literally encoding a message or content for an audience to be enjoyed over and over. Writers before have done the same, and before them that responasbility was carried by scribes and caligraphers. I admire the archetypical medieval scribe and their discipline.
They were artisans toiling away to produce a text that would hopefully captivate an audience. They spent hours on illuminations that mostly just decorated the text and improved the aesthetic. You could wonder why someone would spend that extra effort. I wager that respect for skilled craftsmanship is widespread, and the worth of a finely illustrated manuscript is immediately apparent. In those days not everyone could read, but everyone could enjoy a pretty illustration. Beauty is universal. In that light, the value of an endeavour is linked with the dedication to craftsmanship, and your tenacity.

-  Enterprise  -

/ˈen.tə.praɪz/, Noun

A design of which the execution is attempted.

- Oxford English Dictionary

This is one of many available definitions for the word enterprise, brought to my attention by one of Kevlin Henney’s talks .
To my initial surprise, an enterprise was not defined by outcomes but instead by both an idea and the attempt. In fairness, I can’t imagine anything more scary than jumping head first into the unknown. That’s how I often feel when starting a new project, petrified by the complexity of the tools available and at least initially, lonely. It takes courage and fortitude to overcome that mental hurdle. I think of courage as the hidden driving force of creativity. Courage is daring to move forward regardless of outcome, being fearless about failing. Because, to me, an unattempted masterpiece is not nearly as valuable as an arduous experiment, however flawed it may be.

So in short, I’m a humble scribe who wants to leave a mark on this world.
May you: strive, attempt, pursue, run the gauntlet, struggle, and overcome.

Yours,
- Magister Waldemar
